Technology companies are growing around the country at an accelerated rate and with that growth it prompts an evolution in product offerings. One of the biggest shifts in licensing has been introduced by Microsoft.
Since 2011 when Microsoft launched its Office 365 platform, it has poured tons of resources into making it what it is today. Accessibility from anywhere with an internet connection and a subscription based pricing structure are just a few of the benefits it brings to the table.
Of course with the many benefits that come along with Office 365 there are also some downsides. St. Louis technology companies are finding it hard to resist recommending to their clients, but is it (Office 365) taking too much control over how a business runs? Many small businesses do not like being forced to pay a subscription for each user either monthly or annually when they were used to paying a one-time fee until they wanted to upgrade to the next version of Office.
Office 365 can be set up in many different fashions, but a huge knock on it is the fact that many IT consulting firms say they do not have nearly as much control over how the applications run on employee’s devices. Any issues in turn would reflect badly on the consulting company and to get it fixed they are often times at the mercy of Microsoft.
The great thing about Office 365 is the fact that it allows organizations to always have the latest and greatest versions of the office suite. Although, its security is highly talked about among technology companies, the fact is that most small businesses could not afford the level of security that Office 365 provides on their own.
What it really comes down to is a matter of lease vs. buy. We know what Microsoft wants and it is shown clearly in the rising cost of traditional licensing. In fact the rise in license cost and more limitations have some IT providers left with no choice, but to go the Office 365 route.
For now the price increases and limitations are not enough to change some IT professionals mind about doing things the old fashion way. At Tecvar we explore all options to find the best fit for your particular company needs. For more information please contact us.
