As a St. Louis IT company, Tecvar handles its customer’s technology requests on a daily basis. One of the most frustrating things for a customer is thinking they have a major problem with their computer and it turns out to be something very simple.
As a service to our customers as well as the general public we would like to provide some common troubleshooting tasks to complete before calling for help. Although, our IT support staff would be glad to assist with any problems we encourage you to try these things first. It might save you both time and money.
While often joked about, the first thing you should always try when having general computer issues is to reboot your computer. Often times rebooting your computer can clear up issues that were occurring during the current session, especially if the computer has not been restarted in awhile or several programs have been used since last restarted. Make sure you save your recent work first.
When having problems accessing a website the first thing you should do is try to access another website like CNN.com or Google.com to make sure you have internet connectivity. If you are successful accessing those sites and still having trouble with your desired site, try a different browser. Websites will not always behave the same on all browsers. If that does not work, try viewing the website in compatibility mode. Check out this video to see how.
For problems with programs booting up slowly here is something to think about. You should always ask yourself if this happens all the time or only after starting your computer up? If it only happens after starting your computer up, chances are you have too many programs running in
the background on startup. Just wait a few moments before you open the program up and it will load faster. You can find out more about auto loading programs here.
The other common thing we see with customers is printing issues. You should always verify you are printing to the correct printer and that there is power to the printer. You should also check to make sure that your printer is connected to the network.
If all else fails, you can always contact Tecvar to get IT services. For more tips and tricks you can check out our new YouTube channel where helpful videos are added all the time. The link below will take you to the channel.
